There’s Santa and then there’s Arik. Arik Armstead, that is. The other “big guy in red.”

During the holiday season, Armstead tag teams with Santa to bring gifts to kids hospitalized at UC Davis Children’s Hospital. This 6-foot-7-inch, 290-pound San Francisco 49ers standout and Sacramento native dedicates much of his time off the field to helping children in Northern California.

This was the fourth year Armstead and his family paid a visit to sick and injured kids at UC Davis Children’s Hospital, bearing gifts for infants, teens and every child in between. Patients got to meet Armstead when they visited the playroom to pick out toys and then Armstead toured the pediatrics unit, hand delivering gifts to children who weren’t able to leave their hospital bed.

“It’s a huge blessing to have the opportunity to do this and to be fortunate enough to come here,” Armstead said. “I’m sure I have just as much fun as they do.”
