Miracle Monday Story: Jackson Manning

As part of our “Monday Miracle Story” series, we will introduce you to some amazing UC Davis Children’s Hospital patients, both past and present. Their families graciously agreed to share their journeys to help underscore the importance of donating to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals so critical treatments, health care services, pediatric medical equipment, research and education can continue.

His parents thought he had the flu. Then one morning Mike and Tricia Manning awoke to find their son, Jackson, unresponsive and turning blue. He was rushed to the UC Davis Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). It wasn’t the flu. It was Type 1 diabetes.

Complications had collapsed a lung. Severe pneumonia set in and Jackson was put on a ventilator.

He would spend more than a month at UC Davis Children’s Hospital but thanks to physical therapy, follow-up appointments and sheer will, Jackson is back enjoying simple, everyday things like talking, laughing, sleeping in his own bed, spending time with friends, playing with his cat and participating in sports.

Meet Jackson, our CMN Champion Child, and hear his miracle story.

How donations help kids like Jackson: Children’s Miracle Network donations help fund UC Davis Children’s Hospital’s state-of-the-art Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) which offers care for the most critically ill and injured children.

Each year, the UC Davis PICU treats more than 1,000 infants, children and adolescents who experience traumatic injuries or life-threatening diseases, or have undergone surgery to correct complex congenital birth defects.

This Miracle Story brought to you by ABC10 and Walmart: Walmart and Sam’s Club share a basic belief – that every child deserves the chance to live better. That’s why they have supported Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals for 32 years; raising more than a billion dollars for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals in the process. In 1987, the man affectionately known to the CMN Hospitals team as “Mr. Sam,” Sam Walton, committed his company and its resources to raising money for children’s hospitals with the promise that “the associates will amaze you.” Walmart associates play a key role in supporting their local children’s hospitals. In addition to the countless hours volunteered at CMN Hospitals, Walmart and Sam’s Club associates across the US and Canada raised money through fundraisers and register donations, their associates continuing to amaze. And they couldn’t do it with the generosity of the millions of customers who shop in their stores and clubs every week. Together, Walmart and Sam’s Club associates, customers and members are ensuring that millions of children in communities across North America continue to receive the world-class treatment they need to live better.
