When it comes to kids, Omar Torres has a soft spot. As part of Lazer Broadcasting’s annual Children’s Miracle Network Radiothon, he spends time with UC Davis Children’s Hospital pediatric patients … and cherishes every minute of it.
Held each September, this three-day Radiothon event raises money for Children’s Miracle Network at UC Davis. As an on-air personality and promotions director for Latino 97.9 and 103.3 FM, Torres sets aside time to interview hospitalized children and their families. Both pre-recorded and live segments are produced and then shared with his radio audience.
Despite numerous interviews with kids facing all types of health challenges, Torres never tires of hearing the miracle stories. His favorite part? Seeing the kids smile. “Seeing their faces in a happy moment … it sticks with you,” said Torres. And keeps him coming back. From left to right: Omar Torres, Kolo Barrera and MariCarmen Estudillo.
