Our annual WIMHS Fall Welcome and Recognition Reception is a time to welcome new faculty members to UC Davis Health and to celebrate promotions and accomplishments of current faculty. Comments and pictures from the event are posted below. A special thank you to Dr. Kiran Jain for hosting the event at her beautiful home!
“The Fall Welcome reception is an opportunity for us to connect with each other away from the office, lab and clinics; welcome new women faculty and introduce them to our Schools of Health leadership; and celebrate the accomplishments and academic advancement of women faculty to Associate, Professor, and Distinguished Professor. One of my favorite WIHMS events of the year!” – Amparo Villablanca, MD, Professor Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, WIMHS Co-Director
“The Fall Welcome was one of the first WIMHS events I attended as a newly appointed faculty member. Ten years later I am proud to be part of this tradition and look forward to supporting the continued growth of our WIMHS program as the incoming director.” – Melissa Bauman, PhD, Associate Professor Department of Psychiatry, WIMHS Co-Director
“The WIMHS Fall welcome is a wonderful event. It is an opportunity for new faculty to meet each other and to be introduced to more senior faculty who can serve as informal guides as well as formal mentors. These kind of networking events are essential for women faculty to create professional relationships that are instrumental to understanding the process of academic advancement.” – Theresa (Terri) Harvath, PhD RN, Executive Associate Dean & Clinical Professor, Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing
“The WIMHS Fall Welcome Event was inspiring. It was momentous to hear our accomplished women faculty named as they received their Full Professorship pins, knowing that they have, are, and will continue to be leaders that help pave the way for women and other diverse faculty through the academic ranks. I was no less amazed by our rising faculty from assistant and associate professor ranks as we discussed clinical, research, education, and personal hopes and endeavors. The reception is one of the highlights of my year!” – Hendry Ton, MD MS, Interim Associate Vice Chancellor for Diversity and Inclusion, Associate Dean for Faculty Development and Diversity
“For me, the Fall Welcome was a chance to meet women from other departments and hear about our mutual and individual goals, interests, and to share my WIMHS mentee project ideas. It is nice to step away from the usual pressures of the hospital, clinics, office, labs and spend some time with people with whom we share so much in common, but rarely interact.” – Shannon Suo, MD, Associate Professor Department of Psychiatry, 2017/2018 WIMHS Faculty Mentee
