cyst1

Congenital hydrocephalus is a condition present at birth, caused by a complex interaction of genetic and environmental factors during fetal development.

When I was born, my local hospital soon realized there was a cyst on my brain. I was immediately sent to UC Davis¬†Children’s Hospital to be treated by a pediatric neurosurgeon. When I was a month old, they inserted a VP shunt to manage the hydrocephalus cyst. I had a total of 12 surgeries at UC Davis Children’s Hospital for this condition. The last one was in 2007 when I was 17.

I feel very lucky to have had the opportunity to be cared for at UC Davis Children’s Hospital. In all that time, I received amazing treatment, lots of attention, and I always felt extremely respected. Also, I never had to wait long for any of my many surgeries. What made the experience even better? UC Davis Health has some of the best surgeons in Northern California.

Boggan1

My favorite neurosurgeon–Dr. James Boggan–hard at work.

Dr. James Boggan is an amazing neurosurgeon who performed all my surgeries, beginning with that first one when I was a month old. He is so amazing–he even came in and operated on his day off! He never wanted me to suffer or wait for a needed surgery. ¬†Through it all, he always was, and continues to be, completely honest with me. He never holds anything back. I have so much love and respect for this special person and I always will.

I will always appreciate UC Davis Children’s Hospital for everything they’ve done for me.
